The Arnold Engineering Development Complex is marking 75 years, while also reaching two decades since it assumed management and operation of the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex in California, according to the Defense Department source material.
In 2006, AEDC took responsibility for NFAC’s 40-by-80-foot and 80-by-120-foot wind tunnels at NASA’s Ames Research Center on Moffett Field. The complex, headquartered at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee, designated NFAC as its second geographically separate unit.
AEDC’s first such unit was Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel 9 in White Oak, Maryland. It was transferred to the Air Force and placed under AEDC’s oversight in October 1997.
The source describes the management history as part of AEDC’s 75th-anniversary coverage.
