Smartphone owners may be able to adjust a photo’s composition after taking it with built-in or app-based AI editing tools, according to Fox News’ technology report published Oct. 11, 2026.
Apple’s Extend and Reframe features in Photos require Apple Intelligence and iOS 27 or later. Extend generates image content beyond the original edges, while Reframe lets users adjust the image’s position, zoom, rotation and perspective. The report says the tools are not available on every iPhone that can run iOS 27; language and regional availability may also differ.
Samsung offers editing tools on compatible Galaxy phones through Galaxy AI Photo Assist. Its Move tool can reposition, rotate or resize an object and generate content to fill the resulting background. Google Photos’ Auto frame feature can recompose some tightly cropped or poorly framed images and fill in missing areas. Google’s rollout may vary by device, account and region.
These features create or modify image content rather than simply cropping a photograph. The report cautions that generated areas can include errors, particularly around faces, hands, text and complex backgrounds. It recommends checking edits closely and, when possible, saving them as a copy to preserve the original.
The tools may help with modest composition changes, but they cannot reliably fix every blurry or poorly exposed photo. Availability and results vary by device and software.
