Actress Amanda Seyfried said she turned down a television series because of its frequent sex scenes, describing herself as uncomfortable with that kind of work at this point in her life.

Seyfried made the remarks during a Sunday conversation with Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival in East Hampton, New York, according to People magazine. She said her willingness to film intimate scenes has changed since the early part of her career and that she does not want to be naked with a stranger.

In a 2022 interview with Porter magazine, Seyfried said she had participated in scenes without underwear at age 19 because she worried about upsetting others and losing her job. She now has two children with actor Thomas Sadoski and said they have influenced her to be less likely to give in to pressure.

Other actresses have also discussed setting limits on intimate scenes, though their experiences and choices differ. Christina Ricci said in 2023 that someone had threatened legal action after she declined to perform a sex scene in a particular way. Keira Knightley has said she added a no-nudity clause to her contracts. By contrast, Fox News Digital reported in June that Sydney Sweeney opposed reducing nudity in the third season of “Euphoria,” believing the scenes served her character’s story.

The source also describes the use of intimacy coordinators to establish expectations and consent for intimate scenes. It reports that SAG-AFTRA guidelines require advance notice of expected nudity or simulated sex acts and generally call for written nudity riders at least 48 hours before filming.

Seyfried’s comments reflect her personal boundaries; they do not indicate a broader change in how productions handle such scenes.
