Marin County authorities are investigating the deaths of three family members in Mill Valley, California, as a suspected double murder-suicide, according to statements cited by Fox News on Oct. 12, 2026.

The victims were identified as Ann Mannix, 65, a retired San Francisco police deputy chief; her daughter, Katie, 24; and her husband, Kevin Mannix, 68, a retired San Francisco police sergeant. Marin County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Miguel Almaguer said the preliminary investigation indicated that a man was the suspected shooter. At a later briefing, he identified Kevin Mannix, while saying he could not discuss evidence recovered at the home.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at the residence at about 5 p.m. Sunday. The caller, described by authorities as another resident of the home, reportedly left safely. Deputies then entered and found all three people dead, according to the account.

Autopsies were scheduled for Tuesday. The source report did not provide results or further details about the circumstances or a possible motive.

Louis Wong, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, said the deaths had deeply affected the department community. He described Ann Mannix as a former SWAT commander and said she had been the first woman to join and later lead the team. Wong also noted her involvement with youth sports and the city’s Police Activities League.

The investigation remains subject to official findings, including the scheduled autopsies.
