The NFL suspended Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat for two games without pay after determining he violated the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, according to Fox News. The league did not identify the substance involved.
Sweat is set to miss Chicago’s Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons and its Week 7 matchup with the New England Patriots. The source reports that he is scheduled to be reinstated Oct. 23.
The suspension comes as the Bears are managing other personnel concerns on their defensive line. Defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo left Chicago’s loss to the Green Bay Packers with a quad injury and did not return. Fox News reported that coach Ben Johnson had not provided an update on Odeyingbo as of Monday.
Chicago activated defensive lineman Shemar Turner from the physically unable to perform list. Turner had been recovering from a torn ACL suffered in October 2025. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen cautioned that it would be unrealistic to expect a player returning from the list to handle a full game workload immediately.
Sweat, 30, is in his eighth NFL season and third full season with Chicago. He had seven tackles and two sacks through the Bears’ first five games, according to the report.
