Ben Affleck has addressed a long-running question about his nude shower scene in the 2014 psychological thriller Gone Girl, saying he did not wear a prosthesis for the scene.
“I wore no prosthesis,” Affleck said in an interview with Variety. He added that the only prosthesis he had used for a film was a false nose for Hollywoodland.
Affleck played Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy, played by Rosamund Pike, disappears in the film directed by David Fincher and based on Gillian Flynn’s novel. Affleck has previously described being reassured during filming that the scene would be framed to avoid showing his genitals.
At the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, Affleck joked about the set being kept cool while thanking Fincher for his work on the film. Reflecting later on their collaboration in an interview with Letterboxd, Affleck said he had been willing to do anything for the director, including appearing nude.
Jennifer Garner also joked about the scene during a 2014 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, telling the host, “You’re welcome.”
