Billy Crystal said in a CBS Sunday Morning interview that a series of personal losses has changed how he thinks about God. Fox News reported the interview on Oct. 13, 2026.

Crystal said he no longer trusts God, pointing to what he described as too many painful events and a troubled world. His Pacific Palisades home, where he and his wife, Janice, had lived for 46 years and raised their family, was destroyed in the January 2025 wildfires.

The actor and comedian has spoken publicly about returning to the property after the fire and the grief he felt seeing what remained. That experience is among the subjects of “860,” his new Broadway show, named for the home’s street address. The production recreates his home office and draws on memories of his family, career and loss.

The show also addresses the death of Crystal’s longtime friend Rob Reiner and Reiner’s wife, Michele, in December 2025. Crystal recalled seeing Reiner at a holiday party the night before their deaths.

Crystal said humor has helped him cope, describing it as a source of healing. He also said performing the show has helped him process the losses.
