Kid Rock said he and fellow Detroit musician Eminem have kept their longtime friendship intact despite political disagreements, and that their collaboration on his album “Halfway 2 Jesus” is intended to show others that disagreement need not end a friendship.

In an interview with “My View with Lara Trump” on Saturday, Rock said he invited Eminem to take part because the two had agreed years ago not to let politics divide them. Rock described the rapper as a “class act” and said he believes Americans should be able to express differing views.

Rock said politics does not belong onstage and described the album as an effort to bring people together through faith. He said its songs address forgiveness and second chances, and characterized his faith as longstanding rather than the result of a sudden conversion.

He also said that after Charlie Kirk was assassinated, he, like many others, became closer to his faith. Rock said that renewed focus led to a period of songwriting that contributed to the album.

Rock said he hopes to perform the Christian material in arenas and stadiums, with shows combining rock concerts and revival-style elements. He described the planned performances as a way to celebrate his faith while bringing audiences together.

The comments and album details are based on Rock’s account in the interview.
