Country singer Koe Wetzel shared a photo on Instagram of himself posing behind a large bull elk, with a compound bow resting across the animal. The post’s caption read “Oklahoma Breakdown.” The available material does not establish whether that phrase identified where the hunt took place or referred to the Stoney LaRue song.
The photo appeared Wednesday, according to the source report, a day after Wetzel posted other images from what he described as a remote area where he was hunting elk. Neither post provided the elk’s score or further details about the hunt. The report does not independently establish the hunt’s location.
Wetzel’s post follows other country musicians’ hunting activity this fall. The report names Luke Combs, Riley Green, Parker McCollum and Sam Barber as artists who have also been hunting. Chris Janson recently discussed a Colorado elk hunt with OutKick OutDoors.
Hunting has been a longstanding interest for Wetzel, who grew up in East Texas. In a 2024 interview with Hook & Barrel, he said he received his first bow at age 8 and practices archery throughout the year, sometimes taking bows on tour.
Wetzel also described how he schedules around hunting season. Appearing on the “Country Outdoors” podcast in June, he said people should not expect a friendly response if they contact him from October through February, when hunting takes priority for him.
The singer has previously discussed hunting elk. The report says he harvested a bull in New Mexico and reportedly made a rifle shot from more than 540 yards. It also notes that, during a 2025 appearance on “Country Outdoors,” he talked about taking a bull elk measuring more than 380 inches. The report does not say whether those references concern the same animal.
Wetzel’s latest Instagram post offers no measurement or score for the bull shown, and does not describe the circumstances of the harvest. The source report characterizes the animal as large, based on the image, but supplies no further details that would establish its size.
