Bo Bryan, the 18-year-old son of country singer Luke Bryan, said he broke his collarbone after being injured during a high school football game in Tennessee on Friday. Bryan, who goes by Bo, was playing quarterback for Battle Ground Academy against Pope John Paul II Preparatory School when he was sacked during the opening drive and landed on his right shoulder, The Tennessean reported.

He left the game and was later seen on the sidelines wearing a sling on his right arm. After the game, Bo told The Tennessean that he expected to have an X-ray, but he did not yet know the extent of the injury.

Coach Bobby Bentley told the newspaper the team would need to assess the situation and determine how to respond. He said the injury posed a challenge for the players and coaches as they considered their next steps.

The following day, Bo posted on Instagram that he had broken his collarbone. He thanked people for their thoughts and prayers and wrote, “We will be back,” according to USA Today. The report did not provide further details about his condition, treatment or a timeline for returning to play.

Before the injury, Bo had helped Battle Ground Academy to a 6-1 record in his first season as the team’s starting quarterback. Through seven games, he had thrown for 2,006 yards and 30 touchdowns, with three interceptions, according to The Tennessean.

Luke Bryan spoke about his son’s season last month in an interview with USA Today High School Sports. The singer said he was impressed by Bo’s effort as he adjusted to the pressure of playing in new situations. He also praised his son’s work ethic, commitment and enthusiasm for football.

Bryan and his wife, Caroline Boyer, have two sons, Bo and Tatum “Tate” Christopher Bryan. The couple also took in and raised the three children of Bryan’s late sister, Kelly Bryan, and her husband, Ben Lee Cheshire, according to the supplied report.

Luke Bryan’s representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment about the injury. The available account does not include an update from the family or school on Bo’s recovery.
