A man died after being shot at a subway station in Midtown Manhattan shortly after noon Saturday, according to information the New York Police Department provided to Fox News Digital. The shooting took place at the 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue station.
Police said the victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. The NYPD said no arrest had been made and that the investigation was continuing.
Witnesses described hearing gunfire and seeing people flee. Hassen Pinchback, who told Fox News Digital he was visiting from Orlando, Florida, said passengers ran after the shots rang out. He recalled hearing several shots as train doors opened. Pinchback also said a woman at the scene began chest compressions on the victim before police arrived and urged him to hold on.
A second witness, identified by the last name Miller and described as being from Washington state, told Fox News Digital that she and her daughter were aboard a subway car with its doors open when they heard what she estimated were about five shots. Miller said her daughter went outside and saw the shooter looking toward her before continuing to fire.
Miller said her daughter signaled to a conductor on another train that there was a shooter. According to Miller, the conductor called 911. She also described praying during the incident and credited her Christian faith with helping her feel protected.
PIX11 reported that the shooting followed an argument between the victim and the shooter. The material provided does not identify either person or detail what led to the reported dispute. Police had not announced an arrest or further investigative findings in the information available Saturday afternoon.
