NASA has published a photo of the Perseverance Mars mission team gathered with a Guinness World Records certificate marking the rover’s distance record on the Red Planet.
The image, credited to NASA/JPL-Caltech, was taken in the Mars Yard at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. In front of the group is OPTIMISM, a full-scale engineering model of Perseverance used to help plan the rover’s routes and science activities, according to NASA’s description.
JPL built the rover and manages its operations for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. The laboratory is managed by Caltech. NASA identifies Perseverance as part of its Mars Exploration Program.
The Photojournal entry was published Oct. 13, 2026. The supplied description does not state the rover’s distance or when it set the record.
