New Hampshire Public Radio apologized after sponsoring and hosting a table at the New Hampshire Anarchist Book Fair in Hanover on Saturday, saying the decision conflicted with its standards for avoiding activities that could be viewed as political.
In a statement provided to Fox News Digital, NHPR President and CEO Jim Schachter said the station “erred” in accepting the invitation. The station said newsroom employees were neither aware of nor involved in the decision, and that it is reviewing its internal processes to prevent similar mistakes.
The event’s promotional materials expressed “Solidarity with the Prairieland Defendants,” referring to people prosecuted over a July 4, 2025, attack on the Prairieland Detention Center, an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. Federal prosecutors said the attack involved fireworks and vandalism intended to draw officers outside, while armed participants were positioned nearby. A responding Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck.
According to the Justice Department, nine defendants were later convicted of federal offenses related to the attack, and seven others pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists.
The sponsorship drew criticism from New Hampshire Republican figures. The Carroll County Republicans questioned whether the station receives taxpayer funding, while state Rep. Kristin Noble criticized its involvement. State Rep. Keith Ammon also commented on the station’s statement that its journalists did not know about the event.
The source report does not provide details about the sponsorship’s terms or whether public funds were used.
