The NFL announced Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, that San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw will serve a one-game suspension without pay following a sideline incident during the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Greenlaw was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct after hitting Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold near the Seattle sideline as Darnold was going out of bounds. A confrontation followed involving Seahawks players, including linebacker Ernest Jones. The source reports that Greenlaw headbutted Jones, who was not wearing his helmet.
Greenlaw is eligible to return to the 49ers’ active roster on Oct. 20, after San Francisco’s Oct. 19 game against the Washington Commanders, according to the report.
He can appeal the suspension under the collective bargaining agreement. The source said it was not known whether he would do so. Any appeal would be heard by one of four former NFL players serving as hearing officers: Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera or James Thrash.
The report also notes Greenlaw was ejected in 2023 after an altercation with Philadelphia Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro. The NFL suspension announcement is the central development; the source’s broader characterization of Greenlaw is opinion and is not included here.
