Nothing Bundt Cakes CEO Dolf Berle says two lessons that guide his leadership—consistent routines and openness—trace back to experiences well before his current job.
In an interview with FOX Business published Oct. 18, 2026, Berle said his early work on a dairy farm taught him the value of maintaining routines. He said that discipline still informs both his self-care and the way he runs a business.
Berle also identified vulnerability as the most useful career advice he has received. He said people connect through openness, and that being vulnerable can help leaders understand and support their teams.
That approach, he said, is one reason he prefers to personally deliver difficult news to business partners or colleagues rather than delegate the task. Berle said he wants to explain the reasoning behind a decision, show consideration for the effect it may have on others and make clear how the decision is intended to serve the business and its team.
Berle rejected the notion that serving as a chief executive is glamorous. He characterized the position as a service role that involves handling difficult matters, while also describing the work as meaningful and fulfilling.
For people considering a career in food and beverage, Berle pointed to two priorities: working well with people and joining a business that is growing. He said the industry depends on teams, making respect for colleagues and enjoyment of working with them important. He added that being part of a growing company can bring particular satisfaction.
Before leading Nothing Bundt Cakes, Berle held leadership positions at Topgolf, Dave & Buster’s, Lucky Strike Lanes, House of Blues and ClubCorp, according to the interview. He has degrees from Harvard University and the University of Zimbabwe. The source also reports that he earned world and national championship medals in pole vault, heptathlon and decathlon, and competed on “American Ninja Warrior.”
Asked what he might do if he were not in his current role, Berle said he would try to become the next Mr. Rogers.
