New Castle County police are asking for information after residents reported masked people knocking on doors in the Mallard Pointe neighborhood of New Castle, Delaware, late Friday night.

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Canvasback Drive at about 10:50 p.m. following a report of a suspicious person, police said. Residents described a man wearing a black hockey-style mask and tactical-style vest and carrying an object that appeared to be a rifle. The man allegedly knocked on doors and then ran away, according to police.

Images released by the department show one masked person in a vest holding an object resembling a rifle at a front door, and another person approaching a home in a mask and black vest. Police said four men were also seen heading east on Mallard Road, with two on bicycles and two on foot.

Officers and a K-9 unit searched the neighborhood and nearby properties but did not locate the individuals. Police have not confirmed that the objects were firearms and said they may have been airsoft-style guns.

The department is asking anyone with information or home-security footage from the area to call 911 or its non-emergency line at 302-573-2800.
