A female pueo, or Hawaiian short-eared owl, was returned to the wild at Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Oct. 2 after receiving two months of specialized care for pneumonia, the source reported.
The release was supported by the base’s Environmental Compliance and Protection Division, Hamer Environmental and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Pacific Region. The owl had previously experienced difficulty breathing, according to the report.
The source identifies the pueo as endangered and says the bird was treated at the Hawaii Wildlife Center. It did not provide further details about the owl’s condition after its release.
