New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson said Tuesday that the team’s 1-4 start was unacceptable, speaking less than two days after the Saints lost their third straight game.

At a Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club luncheon, Benson said fans were entitled to expect more from the team. She acknowledged their frustration and said restoring their confidence would require better results, not promises.

The Saints opened the season with an overtime loss to Detroit, won in Week 2, then lost to Las Vegas, Atlanta and Minnesota. The Vikings beat New Orleans 23-13 in Week 5, according to the source report.

Benson assigned responsibility across the organization, saying head coach Kellen Moore and his staff must prepare the players, while general manager Mickey Loomis and the football staff must build a roster capable of sustained success. She also said she was responsible for holding the organization accountable and pledged to make decisions aimed at improving the team.

Benson specifically expressed disappointment over the loss to Atlanta, which took place during a game marking the 20th anniversary of the first contest at the Superdome after its restoration following Hurricane Katrina.

The report said New Orleans’ next two games were scheduled against the New York Giants in New Jersey and the Pittsburgh Steelers in a game in France.
