Six Flags temporarily closed a number of roller coasters at parks across North America after a fatal incident Monday at Six Flags Over Georgia, according to the company and local news reports. One person died and others were injured, Cobb County officials said.
The precautionary closures include rides at parks in California, New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, North Carolina and Ontario, Canada. Six Flags said it had closed similar attractions as a precaution and did not announce reopening dates.
The affected rides named in reports include Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure and Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America. Kings Island closed Orion and Diamondback, while Canada's Wonderland shut Behemoth and Leviathan. Carowinds in North Carolina closed Fury 325 and Thunder Striker.
Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid said county police responded and Major Crimes Unit detectives are investigating. Authorities have not publicly established what caused the death or injuries.
The closures were reported by local television stations and CityNews, citing Six Flags representatives or park information. The company had not said when the rides would resume operation as of the source report.
