A 30-year-old Tennessee woman faces several charges after her vehicle went over a cliff near Chattanooga with her two young children inside, according to the source report, which cited investigators and an affidavit.
The report identified the driver as Chase Ryan Klinedinst. Investigators said she was driving a Honda CR-V on a dead-end road near Coffey’s Cliff when the vehicle went over the edge. The affidavit described it as falling about 25 feet before landing upside down near railroad tracks.
Both children were secured in safety seats and taken to a hospital, the report said. One child suffered a broken arm and a bruised lung; the other was treated and released.
Investigators alleged that Klinedinst had slurred speech, was combative with emergency medical personnel and smelled strongly of alcohol. They also said two wine bottles were found in the vehicle, including one that was empty. These are allegations, not findings of guilt.
Klinedinst faces two counts of child neglect, a driving-under-the-influence charge and a vehicular-assault charge. The report said the Tennessee Highway Patrol filed the charges and that she is due in court November 17. It did not specify the year of that court date.
The charges remain allegations, and the case is to be addressed in court.
