U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach used a video posted to the Treasury Department’s TikTok account Wednesday to promote Trump-themed dollar coins and say they are expected to be available at banks next month. Beach urged viewers to obtain rolls and spend the coins at coffee shops he described as liberal, presenting the idea as a challenge.
The coins were first offered for sale through the U.S. Mint in September as part of commemorations for the nation’s 250th anniversary. The Mint listed a roll of 25 for $61 and a bag of 100 for $154.50, prices substantially higher than the coins’ combined face value. The coins remain legal tender, and the Mint has described them as usable for ordinary purchases.
The design shows President Donald Trump beneath the word “LIBERTY,” with “1776 ~ 2026” below the portrait and “IN GOD WE TRUST” alongside it. The Mint said they were produced in Philadelphia with circulating finishes. Its product description also said the coins had not been placed into circulation when they were offered for sale.
A September post from the Mint on X told users to check their pocket change for the coins. Beach’s statement about bank availability next month suggests that consumers may have a way to obtain them beyond buying them directly from the Mint. However, Treasury had not identified participating banks or said whether banks would provide the coins at their $1 face value.
The Treasury Department had not publicly clarified the distribution schedule or terms in the material available. Fox Business said it had contacted the department for more information about bank availability and pricing. The source did not provide a response from Treasury on those questions.
