Tulsa receiver David Wells Jr. scored on an unusual play during the Golden Hurricane’s visit to Navy on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, according to Fox News’ OutKick coverage.

With the game tied 7-7 and Tulsa at Navy’s 10-yard line, quarterback Baylor Hayes threw a backward pass to Oran Singleton Jr. Singleton was stopped behind the line of scrimmage but escaped a tackle and sent a high pass toward the end zone. Wells tipped the ball backward, caught it himself and ran into the end zone for the touchdown.

Singleton later caught a touchdown of his own, giving Tulsa a 26-14 lead early in the second half, the report said. Tulsa entered the game with a 3-2 record after going 4-8 the previous season.

Fox News’ account also noted Navy’s contrast with the prior year, when the Midshipmen finished 11-2, won the Liberty Bowl and claimed the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy after beating Army and Air Force. The report said Navy had already recorded more losses entering Saturday’s game than in that 2025 season.
