Walmart shoppers who bought certain Expert Grill barbecue-cleaning brushes are being advised to stop using them under a recall announced Oct. 1, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recall covers nearly 4.5 million brushes sold at Walmart stores and online, including Walmart.com. The concern is that wire bristles may detach during cleaning and remain on a grill or transfer to food, potentially causing serious internal injuries. The source material said no injuries or incidents had been reported.

Five products are included, among them handheld and long-handled brushes, a three-head stainless steel brush and a barbecue tool set. The affected items have black plastic or stainless steel handles; some also have metal scrapers. Consumers should check model numbers against the CPSC recall notice to determine whether a brush is included.

Walmart is offering a full refund or store credit. Customers may be asked to return the product or dispose of it. In a statement reported by Fox Business, Walmart said it worked with the CPSC and the manufacturer to remove the products from stores and notify customers.

The brushes were sold beginning in 2021, and prices ranged from $1 to $28, according to the source. Consumers can contact Walmart’s customer service line or consult its product-recall information for details.
