Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., said during a Tuesday night debate that he has no interest in seeking the presidency and would serve a full six-year Senate term if reelected.
Asked by Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Greg Bluestein whether he would pledge to complete the term, Ossoff answered, “Yes, I will.” He added that he was running for reelection to the Senate, not president.
Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., Ossoff’s opponent in the Senate race, challenged that statement during the debate, saying Ossoff was running for president and describing him as a Democratic Socialists of America candidate.
Ossoff has served in the Senate since early 2021, according to the supplied report. The debate was held at Georgia Public Broadcasting studios as part of an Atlanta Press Club event.
