Former Sen. Sherrod Brown said he would not support impeaching President Donald Trump, even if Democrats win control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections and pursue impeachment next year, according to an interview published by The Columbus Dispatch.
“I can't speak for everybody else, but I would not support an impeachment of Trump,” Brown told the newspaper on Oct. 9, adding that he saw no reason for it, regardless of the midterm outcome.
Brown, a Democrat, is running in Ohio’s special U.S. Senate election against Republican Sen. Jon Husted. Brown lost his 2024 reelection bid to Republican Bernie Moreno after serving in the Senate from 2007 to 2025.
Brown voted to convict Trump in both of the president’s Senate impeachment trials during his first term. Neither vote reached the required threshold for conviction. The Senate’s vote on the second case came after Trump had left office, according to the supplied report.
Husted was appointed to the Senate by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine after JD Vance vacated the seat in preparation for becoming vice president. Trump has endorsed Husted, while former President Barack Obama has endorsed Brown.
A Husted campaign spokesperson criticized Brown in a statement, saying he had supported Trump’s impeachments previously and questioning his current position. Brown’s campaign and the White House had not responded to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment as of Tuesday, the report said.
